Abstract :

This article centers on the increasing spread of separatism, secession and it impact on government systems and structures. Particularly on modern states. The implications of separatism on national unity, development and cohesion of any state will be negatively affected due to the struggles, actions, and activities of non-state, and state other involved actors. In Nigeria, the implications of separatist, and secession can be vastly felt in and around the six geo-political regions of the country. Through its destabilizing effect that has had a ripple effect on security, economic and political activities, and social cohesion of the people and state. The theoretical consideration focuses on the theory of federalism, to explain the reason for the rising adoption, spread and demand of separatism and secession by groups within Nigeria, its assumption is that the current Nigeria federal system of government is a bastardized version, that has brought about disillusionment for the Nigerian state by the citizens
