Abstract :

This study investigates the factors influencing women's participation in the electoral process in Kaduna North Local Government, Nigeria. Utilising secondary data and the theoretical frameworks of liberal democracy and liberal feminism, the research explores the extent of women's engagement and the obstacles they confront. Findings reveal that women are increasingly active voters, but their representation in elective positions remains limited. Significant barriers, such as sociocultural norms, economic constraints, and limited political opportunities, hinder their progress. To enhance women's participation, the study recommends establishing platforms for leadership training, fostering inclusivity, educating women, creating supportive environments within political parties, implementing gender quotas, and strengthening enforcement mechanisms. By addressing these challenges, Kaduna North Local Government can cultivate a more equitable and inclusive political landscape.
