Abstract :

Communal conflict poses serious threats to societal harmony, stability, progress and exploring the adverse effect it has on women and children most especially in Niger State from 2015-2024. The study examined communal conflict and human security and how it affects women and children in the study. The research objective is identifying the impact of communal conflict on majorly women and children and how it can be managed. The research adopted the hybrid method of data collection using quantitative and qualitative sources of data collection from 400 respondents, and also employed structural violence theory in analyzing the work. The study reveals that women and children are often affected during communal conflict exposing them to various forms of violence, disrupting access to essential services such as healthcare and education, forced displacement and refugee status, exacerbated by structural failures leading to deprivation, inequality, and economic hardship. The study concludes that issues surrounding communal conflict must be addressed urgently in order to reverse the ugly trend of child abuse during conflict and enhance sustainable development and national security. The study therefore recommends the importance of fostering intercultural dialogue, promoting inclusive education and addressing socio-economic disparities as crucial steps towards conflict prevention and strengthening community engagement, law enforcement and justice systems as essential components of conflict prevention efforts among others.
