Abstract :
This study examines the Counter -Insurgency Operations and National Security in the North-East: A Study of the Nigerian Army Operation Hadin kai in Borno State (2021-2024).The objectives of the study are to: examine the nature and characteristics of the Nigerian Army counter-Insurgency (COIN) operations in Borno State ; investigate the impact of the Nigeria Army Operation Hadin Kai in Borno State The study utilizes the qualitative research method. The qualitative research method interpreted the surrounding phenomenon in the study area via the use of Interview. The data collected in this study was analyzed by descriptive statistical tools. The study used, Securitization Theoryand Psychological Operations (PSYOP) Theory as the theoretical frame work. A sample of Four hundred (400) respondents were selected from both Maiduguri, Bama and Gwoza. The findings indicates that; COIN operations are effective to some degree, though there are concerns about their ability to fully address the root causes of insurgency. The study concludes the operations have contributed to improving security, restoring relative stability, and reducing insurgency in the region, yet concerns persist about their ability to address deeper, underlying issues such as poverty, unemployment, and ideological extremism, which continue to fuel the insurgency. On the basis of the conclusion, the study recommended amongst others that there is a need for greater transparency in military operations.
